Fruits of the Forest at the Rainforest Market
Our market was on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Our store was named "Fruits of the Forest". The items that we sold are Emerald Tree Boa keychains & puppets, rainforest trail mix, Harpy Eagle bottles, rainforest bank, anteaters, binoculars, and Blue Morpho butterflies. Each child got a chance to shop at other stores in the pod. They also got a chance to sell the items that we made to the other classes in the Yellow Pod. Our class had some really good salesmen. We sold all of our products!
Dairy Cow
On Wednesday, April 18th, the Alabama Dairy Cattle Association's mobile classroom came to AEEC. Ms. Amanda and Petunia the Cow shared a lot of information with us about different types of cows and the importance of drinking milk! We learned that milk has 9 essential vitamins and minerals, and that there are 6 different types of dairy cows. Did you know that the milk from each type of dairy cow is used for different purposes? We learned that a cow must have a calf to make milk and that cow's milk must be pasteurized before we can drink it! Ms. Amanda milked Petunia by hand, and then also hooked her up to a milking machine.

Auburn University Raptor Center
On Thursday April 5th, the Auburn University Raptor Center came to AEEC for a special yellow pod presentation. The students learned about different types of raptors around our area. We learned about a Screech Owl, Barn Owl, Falcon, Red-Tailed Hawk, and a Bald Eagle. The Bald Eagle was named "Spirit" and flies around Jordan Hare stadium on game days. The students enjoyed the presentation and later wrote about it in their journals.
Earning Pennies for Market
The Yellow Pod will be having a market May. We will be making rainforest items to sell to other classes. The children will also have a chance to go to the other classes to buy items that they have made. After Spring Break, the children will have an opportunity to earn pennies for the market. We have been learning about banks and money. We read Benny’s Penny’s and Ben’s Saving’s Account. We brainstormed ways that the children can earn money at school. We also brainstormed some fines. The children have to give me pennies if they get a fine. We are currently working on a bank in our room.
Walk About Puppets
Bob Parsons, of Walk About Puppets, came to AEEC. He performed Goldilocks and the Three Bears for our children. They absolutely loved his performance! Mr. Parsons shared with the children how he makes his puppets and his sets after the show was over.

In February we had a Valentine Box Decorating Box. Each child in the class participated and created some incredible boxes. The category winners were:

AU Golf Reader
On Tuesday, February 7th, Will McCurdy, from the Auburn University golf team, came and read to our class. He read The Lima Bean Monster and Sally Jean the Bicycle Queen. The children really enjoyed it and he even answered a few questions about golf afterwards. He also posed with our class for a picture.
